Progressives Vocab

TermDefinition
Progressives People who belive in using new and creative ideas for social change.
Muckraker Muckrakers were writers who dug up dirt, or, "muck," about dangerous working conditions.
Sufferage The fight for gaining the womens right to vote.
Seneca Falls Convention A convention were Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott planned the Seneca Falls Convention in New York, were they wrote a document for the demand of an end to laws that discriminated against women.
Prohibition Laws that would ban the production and sale of alcohol.
Patronage State leaders giving government jobs to people who had done favors to them or their political party.
Initiative If enough voters sign a petition, or request, they can introduce a bill and force legislaters to vote on an issue.
Referendum Allows citizens to vote directly on laws.
Recall Right to remove an elected offical from office.
19 Amendment Gave women the full right to vote.
