Hernando de Soto Spanish explorer, who was looking for gold and precious metals, found the Mississippi River
Robert de La Salle French explorer, successful in trading fur & looking to expand his business, found the mouth of the Miss River. Built many forts as he explored so he could control the trade of buffalo hides claimed & land for King Louis XIV & named it "La Louisiane."
Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville French explorer sent to explore the environment and lands of Louisiana by King Louis XIV settled at Fort Maurepas making it the first capital of Louisiana. He also brought Louisiana's most famous celebration, Mardi Gras.
Jean-Baptiste d'Bienville French explorer that settled in New Orleans and made New Orleans the new capital of Louisiana. He served as governor of Louisiana.
