What is a Civil Case? A case in which a plaintiff says that there is a loose and the defendant disagrees that the loss is not their responsibility.
Divorce, inequity, breach of contract and negligence are examples of what type of case? Civil Case.
Injunction means? A court order to stop a person or group of people from doing something.
To start a civil case you must what? File a complaint through your lawyer.
After you file a complaint the other party must do what? Once the other party gets the summons(the court order to attend court that is sent when a complaint is obtained) the defending party must send an answer.
What are pleadings? The answer and the complaint.
Instead of going to court some cases are solved through what? Mediation and Arbitration.
When a judge or jury gathers facts about the case so no party is surprised at the hearing is what phase? Discovery.
What is a criminal case? A case in which someone is to be punished for being involved in an act that is offensive to a person or society.
When a defendant is charged with a crime they must enter a what? Plea.
Define plea bargaining. When the defendant agree to admit to a crime but one with a lesser punishment than the one that they were originally charged with.
A jury who can't decide is called what? A hung jury.
When the jury cannot decide they must either. Drop the charges or file for retrial.
