What did the British government do to help pay the cost of the French and Indian War? It passed new tax laws for the colonies.
Why was the battles of Lexington and Concord important? Marked the beginning of the Revolutionary War
How did the colonists protest taxes by the British? Refused to buy British goods
Why is July 4th an important date in the American history? Voted to accept the Declaration of Independence
What was the Proclamation of 1763, and how did the colonists react to it? Stated all land west of the Appalachian was Native American land. The colonists ignored it and moved anyway.
When did the British find out that fighting the colonists would not be easy? After the Battle of Bunker Hill
How did the Committee of Correspondence help the Colonists fight British rule? They spread information quickly
What was the 1st plan of government for the United States? Articles of Confederation
Who was the commander in chief of the Continental Army? George Washington
Who called for a resolution in the 2nd Continental Congress? Richard Henry Lee
Who was the head of the Articles of Confederation? John Dickinson
Who organized the 1st Committee of Correspondence? Samuel Adams
Who was the main writer of the Declaration of Independence? Thomas Jefferson
What are 4 ways the colonists protested British policies? Boycotted British goods. Made their own goods. Chased tax collectors. Formed committees of correspondence. Formed militias. Organized protests.
What effect did the Articles of Confederation have on the new nation? States were held together as a nation during the Revolutionary War.
Why did the 1st Continental Congress meet in 1774, and what did it do? To decide how to respond to British policies. Sent a petition to the King. Agreed to stop most trade with Britain. Asked the colonies to form militias.
What effect did the Battle of Bunker Hill have? Proved the colonists could fight the British and not be easy to defeat. Angered the British.
