American Revolution

| Green Mountain Boys | A group of men from Vermont who led a surprise attack on Fort Ticonderoga. |
| Continental Army | Army made up of men from all the colonies, led by George Washington. |
| Olive Branch Petition | Letter sent to the king of England asking him to repeal the Intolerable Acts. It was a last attempt at peace. |
| Patriots | Colonists who wanted Independence from England. |
| Loyalists | Colonists who did not want to break away from England, they did not support the Revolution. |
| Blockade | The shutting off of ports to keep people from getting supplies (very effective). |
| Common Sense | Pamphlet written by Thomas Paine that urged the colonists to fight for independence. |
| Declaration of Independence | Document written by Thomas Jefferson that explained why the colonies were breaking away from England |
| Mercenaries | Soldiers who are paid to fight for another country-- German soldiers called Hessians fought for england. |
| Traitor | A person who betrays their country or cause and helps the other side. |
| Siege | Art of surrounding an enemy position in attempt to capture it. |
| Ratify | To approve or accept |
| Treaty of Paris (1783) | Ended the American Revolution, gave America independence from England |
