All About Our Government Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Executive Branch makes sure laws are followed and is headed by the President, Vice President, and Cabinet members
Legislative Branch makes the laws, headed by Congress (Senate, House of Representatives)
Judicial Branch ensures laws are carried out fairly and consists of the Supreme Court and 9 Justices
Constitution "supreme law of the land", explains how the US government works
taxes money that all US citizens have to pay
elect make a choice by voting
citizens person who is a member of a community, state, or country
services work done for somebody else
government all people who run a community, state, or country
laws set of rules made by the government that citizens must follow
local government first level, creates and makes sure laws are followed in the cities, towns and counties
state government second level, creates and makes sure laws are followed in the states
federal government third level, creates and makes sure laws are followed by the nation
representative democracy government where people vote for their leaders
