What area did Christopher Columbus explore and why? He explored South America, Bahamas, and San Salvador. He was looking for a route to the Indies.
What country did John Cabot come from? What year did he explore? -England -1497
What area did John Cabot explore and why? He explored Eastern Canada and Newfoundland. He was looking for riches of India/Asia. He found fishing areas.
What country did Samuel de Champlain come from? What year did he explore? -France -1608
What area did Samuel de Champlain explore and why? He explored Eastern Canada and the St. Lawrence River. He was looking for the NW passage. He established Quebec and fur trade. -St. Lawrence River connect to Great Lakes.
What country did Robert LaSalle come from? What year did he explore? -France -1680
What area did Robert LaSalle explore and why? He explored the Mississippi River Valley. He named the area Louisiana. He was looking for the mouth of the river and claimed the area for France.
What country did Francisco Coronado come from? What year did he explore? -Spain -1540's
What area did Francisco Coronado explore and why? He explored the SW US including Rio Grande, Grand Canyon, Mexico, and San Salvador. (These areas are in basin and range). He was looking for cities of gold and claimed SW US for Spain. He brought corn and horses and disease. He tried to enslave Indians.
