What was the importance of Fort Wagner? a fort located in S. Carolina, 54th Massachusetts Regiment led a heroic attack on Ft. Wagner.
What was the importance of Vicksburg? Vicksburg was where a seige took place, Gen. Ulysses S. Grant defeated Confed. troops
What does it mean to secede? to withdraw.
what is an abolitionist? one who wanted to end slavery
what was the anaconda plan? a strategy by which the union proposed the defeat the Confederacy
what is a conscription? a law that required men to serve in the military or be drafted
what are state's rights? states have the right to judge when the federal government had passed an unconstitutional law
what is a blockade? when armed forces prevent the transportation of goos or people into or out of an area
what was the 54th regiment? one of the 1st African-American regiments organized to fight for the Union
Who was Abraham Lincoln? he was the president during the civil war
Who was Dred Scott and his case? Dred was a slave who sued for his freedom b/c he was taken to live in territories which slavery was illegal
Who was john Brown? was an extreme abolitionist who killed lots of people who were proslavery
Who was jefferson davis? he was the president of the confederacy
who was robert e. lee? was a general for the confed.
who was joshua lawrence chamberlain? he was in command of the 20th maine regiment
who was frederick douglas? he was an african-american speaker and publisher
Who was robert gould shaw? he was in command of the 54th african-american massachusettes regiment

Who was harriet beecher stowe? she was the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin
who was stonewall jackson? he was a confederate officer who stood like a stonewall in battle
who was william tecumseh sherman? he was a union general and did not like war, but he fought for slaves freedom
