TermDefinition
History A written record of what happened in the past
Prehistory Time before written history.
oral tradition Legends. myths, and beliefs that a culture passes from generation to generation by word of mouth.
Historian An expert who studies and records the past
Archaeologist An expert who studies the past by examining objects that people have left behind.
Geographer An expert who studies and creates maps of Earth's natural and human-made features.
Primary source Information about people/events from the time the people lived/the events took place.
Secondary source Information about about people/events recorded long after the people lived/the events took place.
Excavation Digging in an area of ground to uncover remains from the past
Artifact An object made/used by people in the past.
Fossil Remains/Imprint of plant/animal from the past age
Anthropologist A scientist who studies human development.
Hominin An early ancestor of humans.
Migrate To move from one geographic place to another.
Ritual Relating to a ceremony, such as a religious ceremony.
