Longitude Distance east and west of the prime meridian
Latitude Distance north and south of the equator
Altitude Height above sea level
Hill Area of raised land that is lower and more rounded

Geography The study of people, their environments, and their resources
Plain Broad area of fairly level land
Map projection Way of drawing a map on a flat surface
Globe Sphere with a map printed on it
Cartographer Person who makes maps
Isthmus Narrow strip of land
Hemisphere Half of the earth
Tributary Stream or small river that flows into a bigger river
Irrigate To bring water to an area
Prime meridian Center of the earth cut top to bottom
Equator Center of the earth cut side to side
Standard time zone One of 24 divisions of the earth, each an hour a part
