patroon a landowner in the Dutch colonies who ruled over large areas of land
pacifists people opposed to the use of war or violence to settle disputes
indentured servant a laborer who agrees to work without pay for a certain period of time in exchange for passage to America
constitution a list of laws supporting a government
indigo a plant used to make blue dye for cloth
debtor a person or country that owes money
