Etienne Brule First French explorer to visit Michigan; possibly killed and eaten by the Huron.
Matrilineal Society where property is passed down through female lineage or female heirs
Patrilineal Society where property is passed down through male lineage or male heirs
Wigwam A shelter made by Algonquin people out of tree limbs and bark
Voyageurs Licensed French fur traders who traveled by canoe and sold beaver skin (pelts).
