| Matrilineal | Society where property is passed down through female lineage or female heirs |
| Patrilineal | Society where property is passed down through male lineage or male heirs |
| Wigwam | A shelter made by Algonquin people out of tree limbs and bark |
| Voyageurs | Licensed French fur traders who traveled by canoe and sold beaver skin (pelts). |
