Compass Rose A circular direction marker on a map
Cardinal Directions Main directions North South East West
Intermediate Directions The "inbetween" directions;NW NE SW SE
Map Key Part of a map that explains what the symbols on the map stand for
Map Sale Part of a map compares a distance on the map to a distance in the real world
Map Title Words on a map that tell the subject of a map
Inset Map A smaller map set in a larger map
Physical Map Primary purpose is to show land forms like mountains deserts and plains
Political Map Shows boundaries of countries and states; locations of major cities and important bodies of water
Historical Map A map that gives information about a place as it was in the past
Grid System An arrangement of lines that divides something into squares such as a map
