Compass Rose a circular direction marker on a map
Cardinal Directions main directions; north, south, west, east
Intermediate Directions the "in between" directions; northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest
Map Key part of a map that explains what the symbols on the map stand for
Map Scale part of a map that compare a distance on the map to a distance in the real world
Map Title words on a map that tell the subject of a map
Inset Map a smaller map set inside a larger map
Physical Map primary purpose is to show landforms like mountains, deserts, and plains
Political Map shows boundaries of countries and states; locations of major citites and important bodies of water
Historical Map a map that gives information about a place as it was in the past
Grid System an arrangement of lines that divides something into squares such as a map
