Vocab

TermDefinition
compass rose- A circular directions marker on a map.
cardinal directions- Main directions; north,south,south,and west.
intermediate directions- The "in between" directions;NW,NE,SE,SW.
map key- Part of a map that compares a distance on the map to a distance in the real world.
map title- Words on a map that tells the subject of map.
insert map- A smaller map inside a larger map.
physical map- Primary purpose is to show land forms like mountains,deserts,and plains.
political map- Shows boundaries of countries and states; locations of major cities and important bodies of water.
historical map- A map that gives information about a place as it was in the past.
grid system- Arrangment of lines that divides something into squares such as a map.
