Figuative Language Definitions

simile Comparing two unlike things using the words "like" or "as"
metaphor Comparing two unlike things without using the words "like" or "as"
idiom figure of speech not to be taken literally
hyperbole figure of speech that shows an extreme exaggeration.
analogy Comparing two unlike things using a relationship. Often seem like they are complex similes and metaphors.
imagery Using word choice and figurative language to create a mental image for the reader.
