Types of Pol Parties

Groups that try to control the government

candidate a person who is running for political office
independent a candidate who is NOT part of any party
multiparty system where 3 OR MORE political parties try to control the government
one-party system where ONLY ONE political party controls the government, and NO OTHER parties are allowed
political party a group that tries to control the government BY WINNING ELECTIONS and HOLDING PUBLIC OFFICE
third party any political party that is NOT ONE of the TWO MAJOR parties
two-party system where TWO MAJOR political parties try to control the government; examples: Republicans and Democrats in the USA
political party a group that tries to CONTROL THE GOVERNMENT by 1)winning elections and 2) holding political office like President, Senator, Governor, Mayor
campaign where candidates WORK TO WIN the votes of the people
precinct the smallest type of VOTING DISTRICT
ward a small part of a city made up of precincts
