Name two reasons that were given in support of enacting a ban on alcohol in the United States. Two reasons that were given in support of enacting a ban on alcohol were: alcohol was corrupting the society & tearing apart families.
Describe a common theme in the work of the writers in Harlem in the 1920s. A common theme among Harlem Renissiance writers was defiance, or resistance, int he face of white prejudice.
How was American education affected by successful industries and rising household income? American education was affected because more children were going to school instead of working; their parents' income was getting higher, therefore they didn't need to have a job.
Identify at least three things that contributed to a new American popular culture in the 1920s. Three things that contributed to a new popular culture were the TV, the car, and the radio.
How did women vote when they were initially allowed to vote? When they were initially allowed to vote, women mostly voted the same as their fathers or husbands.
Why was the NAACP founded? The NAACP was founded to end descrimination & mistreatment of African Americans.
How did the car and the radio come together? Lear & Wavering installed a radio into their car that didn't interfere with their electrical system so their girlfrinds would have more fun on dates.
Why did school attendance increase in the 1920s? School attendance increased because adults were making more money & their kids were able to leave work & go to school for an education.
Why did so many African Americans move in the early 1900s? In the early 1900s, the demand for war equipment was higher; therefore, many African Americans moved North because there were a lot of new jobs.
Why did entertainment, such as movies, become so popular in the 1920s. Movies became so popular because people were getting more money, and they had more money to entertain themselves.
How did the writers and artists of the Harlem Renaissance affect American culture? The writers and artists of the Harlem Renaissance helped people better understand African Americans.
Why was the Lost Generation so named? The generation was named the 'Lost Generation' because a group of American writers chose to live in Europe following World War I.
What were some of the positive and negative consequences of prohibition? A positive consequence of prohibition was that there was a decline in alcohol-reduced death. A negative consequence was that there was a lot more law breaking.
