What were the effects of the Galveston Hurricane? A commission form of government was created, a sea wall was built, and the city was lifted with sand.
During the Oil Boom people flooded into towns to drill for oil and hopefully become the next Anthony Lucas. What did they have to buy in order to drill? In other words what other part of the economy took off because of the oil boom? Land sales or real estate
What was supposed to be the New York City of the South? Galveston
Why did Houston become the New York City of the South? While Galveston was cleaning up from the storm, oil was discovered and Houston became the economic center of Texas. The Houston ship channel was dug out and made it the major port city of Texas. Galveston never fully recovered as the city it once was.
What effect did the Spindletop discovery have on drilling in other areas of Texas? Drilling and discoveries of oil took place all over the state from West Texas, the Panhandle, North Texas, and even East Texas.
