8. Why is the Northeast the home of many different ethnic groups? Many immigrants landed at ports in the northeast and didn't have money to move anywhere else.
9. What is a value? an idea or belief that someone thinks is important
10. What does telecommunications mean? the sending of messages over long distances, sometimes using satellites
11. Who made the very first call in 1876 and invented the telephone? Alexander Graham Bell
12. What is a commuter? someone who travels on most days to work or school
13. Why is public transportation so important in the Northeast? Many people live or work in cities, and there are many traffic jams on old, winding streets.
14. What is a tax? money that people and businesses pay for government services
