| petition | a formed written request signed by many people. |
| inflation | an increase in prices. |
| treason | the crime of betraying one’s country. |
| rights | freedoms protected by a government’s laws. |
| profiteering | the practice of making extra profits from goods in short supply. |
| mercenaries | professional soldiers hired to serve in a foreign army. |
| war spies | loyalists that would pretend to be patriots to gain information/secrets for their king. |
| traitor | a person that betrays a friend or country. |
| Hessians | German mercenaries that were paid to fight for England during the American Revolution. |
| canteen | a water bottle used by soldiers and campers. |
| knapsack | a bag carried on the back by soldiers. |
