| Apnea | The absence or cessation of breathing. |
| Arrhythmia | An abnormality or irregularity in the heart rhythm. |
| Arteriosclerosis | Thickening, decreased elasticity, and calcification of arterial walls. |
| Bradycardia | A slow heartbeat. Below 60 beats per minute. |
| Bradypnea | Respirations that are regular in rhythm but slower than normal in rate. |
| Dyspnea | Difficult or painful breathing. |
| Febrile | Pertaining to elevated body temperature. |
| Hypertension | Hypertension (htn) Elevated BP. Systolic over 140 mm Hg & diastolic over 90 mm Hg. |
| Hyperventilation | Abnormally prolonged, deep breathing usually associated with acute anxiety or emotional tension. |

| Orthopnea | A condition in which the pt must sit or stand in order to breathe comfortably. |

| Stertorous | Term describes a strenous respiratory effort marked by a snoring sound. |
| Tachycardia | Rapid but regular heart rate. Anything over 100 bpm. |
| Cheyne | A breathing pattern with rhythmic changes. Pt may breath deeply for a short time and then slightly breath or even stop for a period of time. Cheyne-Stokes is seen in heart failure or brain damage. |
