6th Grade Europe Vocabulary Words

Mercantilism Belief in the benefits of profitable trading; commercialism
Feudalism System of obligations that bound lords and their subjects in Europe during much of the Middle Ages
Industrialization A move from man-labor to machine-labor and industry
Imperialism Expansion of a country's territory
Ancient Belonging to the very distant past and no longer in existence
Chunnel A railroad tunnel under the English Channel between Great Britain and France
Cottage Industry An industry whose labor force consists of family units or individuals working at home with their own equipment
Parliament The legislative body of a government
European Union A political union in Europe that wants to establish common economic, foreign, security, and justice policies
World War A war involving many large nations in all different parts of the world
Conflict A disagreement between groups that leads to war
Alliances Agreement between two or more parties, made in order to advance common goals and to secure common interests
Holocaust Destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war
Genocide Deliberate destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group
