| Louisiana Purchase | A land purchase from France that doubled the size of the United States and allowed the US to trade along the Mississippi River |

| Industrial | Related to a manufacturing business |
| Immigrants | Foreigners who came to the United States to live and work |
| Annex | Adding the territory of another state to a country |
| Mexican Cession Land | Land given to the United States at the end of the War with Mexico in 1848 |
| Gadsden Purchase of 1853 | A purchase named after James Gadsden in which the US purchased more territory from Mexico that would eventually make up the southern part of Arizona and Mexico and established the US-Mexican border |
| Agricultural | Relating to work or business of producing crops |
| Productivity | The state of being able to create, particularly at a high quality and quick speed. |
