Autocracy | One person possesses unlimited power; citizen has little, if any, role in government |
Democracy | Government where people (citizens) have the power; citizens can VOTE |
Parliamentary Democracy | type of government where power is held by members of legislature/parliament |
Presidential Democracy | type of government where citizens elect the president and the legislature |
Prime Minister | Chief executive in a parliamentary democracy; part of the legislature |
President | Chief executive in a presidential democracy; elected by the people |
Legislature | lawmakers/lawmaking body |

Chancellor | Chief executive in Germany |
Monarch | King or queen |
Constitutional Monarchy | a government where a king or queen is the head of state but has little power; power is limited by a constitution |
Government | a body with the power to make laws, enforce those laws, and interpret the laws when disagreements arise; also provide protection for its citizens |
Head of State | a leader who represents the country at ceremonial events, but typically holds very little real power |
