Epidemic a widespread outbreak of a disease
Colonization the spread of people over new areas, creating new colonies
Free trade unrestricted exchange of goods between countries
NAFTA North American Free Trade Agreement (Canada, USA, Mexico)
Ethnicity a social group that shares a common and distinctive culture, religion, language, or other trait
Colonialism the control or governing influence of a nation over a country, territory, or people
Independence freedom from the control or support of another
Metropolitan a large city and its surrounding suburbs and communities
Cash crop a crop grown to sell for profit
Subsistence Farming farming for the basic needs of the farmers and their families
Commercial farming growing in large quantities to sale to retailers
Columbian Exchange the exchange of goods between the Americas and Europe after the discovery of the Americas
Indigenous produced, growing, or living naturally in a region
Rainforest a tropical woodland with an annual rainfall of at least 100 inches
