| Melting Pot | referring to people/different elements "melting together" (metaphor) |
| Culture | way of life, including food, clothing, architecture, language, religion,etc. |
| Native | being in the place or environment in which a person was born. (indigenous) |
| Immigrant | a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country. |
| Migrate | move from one area or country to settle in another |
| Old World | Africa, Asia and Europe - the part of the world known before contact with the Americas |
| Bering Land Bridge | during the ice age a bridge from the sea that connected the two continents of Asia and N. America. |
| Tradition | customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way. |
| New World | Western Hemisphere, specifically the Americas (including nearby islands) |
| Diverse | showing a great deal of variety; very different. |
