Nat Turner's Slave Rebellion
Compromise of 1850 North- California joins the Union as a free state. Slave trade in Washington DC would be abolished.South- New Mexico and Utah territories open to slavery. Strong fugative slave law.
Kansas-Nebraska Act Nebraska free territory and Kansas slave territory.
Violence in the Senate 1856 Preston brooks hit Charles Sumptner with a cane. The southerners were satisfied.
Dred Scott Case Dred Scott sued to end his slavery, arguing that that living in free territory made him a free man. But the Supreme Court said he wasn't a US citizen.
John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry John Brown was a fervent abolitionist who opposed slavery and developed a plan to raid Harper's Ferry and give guns to slaves and start a rebellion.
Election of 1860 Lincoln did not feel that slavery could continue in this country and that followed with 7 southern state succeeding and 4 others following.

Causes of the Civil War Disagreement over the legality, morality, and politics of Slavery, Kansas-Nebraska Act sparked violence in Kansas, Southern States seceded from the Union, Confederates attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina.
13th Amendment Banning Slavery in the United States.
14th Amendment Granting citizenship to all persons born of naturalized in the US and no state can deprive life, liberty, or property without due process.
15th Amendment The right to vote "shall not be denied on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude".

Carpet Bagger Name Given to many Northeners who moved to the South after the Civil War and supported Republicans.
Results on the Civil War Slavery was outlawed in the US, Southern States rebuilt their economy, African Americans gained citizenship and voting rights, The first US civil rights laws were passed.
