Role Position that someone has in a society.
Landmass Is one very large, unbroken area of land.
Topography Arrangement of physical features.
Middle Ages A period between the collapse of the Roman Empire, about A.D. 500, and the beginning of the Modern Age, about A.D. 1500.
Medieval Which means Related to the Middle Ages.
Charlemagne Became king when he was just about 26. He defeated The Saxons. He also encouraged Law and Learning.
Diffusion Spread.
Religious Order A community of men or woman devoted to prayer and service and bound by certain vows.
Benedict of Nursia He was an Italian Monk who founded a monastery. He left Rome to live like a hermit. He also had a lasting affect on Monastic Life.
Abbot The head of Monastery
St. Patrick A British-Born Christian who was sold into slavery. He later Escaped an worked as a Pagan. He founded over 300 churches.
Sacraments Sacred rites of the Church.
Fief Grant of land.
Serf Peasants who were legally "tied" to the lord's land and could not leave it.
Chivalry A Christian Warrior's code of behavior.
Manor The self-Sufficient estate of a medieval lord.
