| Middle ages | A period between the collapse of the roman empire, about a.d. 500, and the beginning of the modern age about a.d.1500. |
| Medieval | Which means related to the middle ages. |
| Charlemagne | Charles Martel son of Pepin the short became the first king of a new dynasty. |
| Diffusion | Or spread. |
| Religious order | Is a community of men or women devoted to prayer and service and bound by certain by vows. |
| Benedict of Nursia | An Italian monk had a lasting effect on monastic life. |
| Abbot | Or head of the monastery. |
| St.Patrick | He was born in Roman Britain and when he was fourteen he was captured by Irish pirates and taken to Ireland. |

| Manor | A manor was the self-sufficient estate of a medieval lord. |
