johnny tremmain

apprentice person learning a trade or art, especially one bound by legal agreement to work for an employer for a certain length of time in return for instruction and maintenance , but little or no pay. Johnny is an apprentice for a silversmith.
parasitic living off of another life form, not self-sustaining. Johnny is a parasitic to Mr.Lapham.
brackish slightly salty. I ate some sun flower seeds that were brackish.
crucible container in which metals ore etc. can be melted. Dove hands Johnny a broken crucible, which leads to him hurting his hand.
pious having or showing reverence for God; religious. Mr. Lapham is pious by having the boys read the bible.
repousse raised in belief by hammering in the reverse side of thin metal. Mr.Lapham uses repousse when he is making fine silver.
poultice a soft, moist mass of mustard, herbs, etc. applied to the body as medicine. Johnny got poultice put on his hand from the midwife.
illiterate Unable to read and write; lack of education. All of the other apprentices were illiterate besides Johnny.
indolent disliking work; lazy;idle. Cole is says he is very indolent almost all the time.
diffident lacking in self-confidence,shy. Kelly is very diffident because she is not popular in her school.
assuage calm or soothe;make less intense;make easier or milder. Security guards assuage people when there is a fight at a club.
nonchalance cool unconcern; indifferent. If i do something wrong, i would try to be nonchalance about it.
effigy an image or statue usually of a person; images burned or hanged to show dislike or contempt. There is an effigy of Abraham Lincoln in Washington D.C.
enigmatic like a riddle,baffling,puzzling. Sometimes i am enigmatic when i talk to people!!
