City state Individual cities in ancient Greece that had their own personalities, goals, laws & customs
Polis Region consiting of a city-state and its surrounding rurual areas
Peninsulas "Top of the hill" in the center of a city-state where they built temples, fortress, etc.
Accropolis Type of democracy where people as a whole make decisions, not just elected representatives
Direct Democracy A period in a scoitey's history marked by great achievements
Parthenon The temple that was a shrine to the goddess Athena
Montheism The belief that there is only one God
Polytheism The belief in more the one god or in many gods
Golden Age A period in a society's history marked by great achievements
