What are similarities between public speaking and conversation? Organizing thoughts logically, tailoring message to audience, telling story for maximum impact, adapting to listener feedback
How is public speaking different from conversation? More highly structured, requires more formal language, requires different method of delivery
How do you turn nervousness from negative to positive? Get experience, prepare, think positively, use visualization, know that nervousness isn't visible, don't expect perfection
What are the elements involved in the communication process? Speaker, message, channel, listener, feedback, interference, situation
What multicultural elements should you be cautious of? Cultural diversity in modern world, diversity in public speaking, avoiding ethnocentrism
What are the four kind of listening? Appreciative, empathetic, comprehensive, critical
What are the causes of poor listening? Not concentrating, listening too hard, jumping to conclusions, focusing on delivery and personal appearance
How do you become a better listener? Take listening seriously, be an active listener, resist distractions, suspend judgement, focus your listening, develop note-taking skills
