John Locke the Enlightenment philosopher who advocated the Social Contract and the idea that people have natural rights such as life, liberty, and property.
Thomas Paine encouraged the colonies to declare independence from England by writing the pamphlet "Common Sense"
Thomas Jefferson He was not only the primary author to the Declaration of Independence, He also purchased the territory west of the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains from France (Louisiana Purchase)
Patrick Henry As a Virginian, he supported the patriot cause when I stated "Give me liberty, or give me death"!
George Washington He was the leader of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
Benjamin Franklin He helped convince the King of France to give military assistance to the colonies during the Revolutionary War.
James Madison Most of his ideas are found in the Constitution as I organized the Constitutional Convention which allowed its creation. He also authored the Virginia Plan for government and the Bill of Rights (1st ten amendments to the constitution)
George Mason As an Anti-Federalist in Virginia, He opposed ratification (accepting as law) the Constitution because it had no Bill of Rights
Chief Justice John Marshall He was the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court who established judicial review which established the role of the Supreme Court to decide if government actions are unconstitutional. (Marbury v. Madison)
John Adams He was the other leader of the Federalists and was the second president of the united states. He was also defeated by Thomas Jefferson in the election of 1800 (peaceful change of power).
Alexander Hamilton He was one of the leaders (the main leader) of the Federalist Party. He also was shot by Aaron Burr
Lewis and Clark they explored the territory of the Louisiana Purchase
Sacajawea He helped guide Lewis and Clark through the Louisiana Territory
Eli Whitney He invented the Cotton Gin, which increased the demand for slave labor in the south
Andrew Jackson He appealed to the common man, used the spoils system in office, and vetoed the National Bank System in America
