Government Test

This is the study set for the grade 3 Government Test at Indialantic Elementary

What is a government? When a group of people work together to run a community, state or country.
What type of services do governments provide to keep people SAFE? police departments, fire departments, and military
How does the government pay for services that the community needs? Taxes that people pay
What gives all the people in the United States are rights? The Constitution
What is a civic virtue? Peoples actions that show character traits of good citizens.
What are some examples of what good citizens do? Volunteer, pay taxes, be a part of a jury, be responsible
What is the definition of Majority Leader? Selected by a party that holds more with a senate
What is a Treaty? Agreement with other countries
Why does the Constitution divide the national government into three branches? Because by each branch working together, no person or group can ever have too much power
What two groups is the Legislative Branch made up of? Senate and House of Representatives (Congress)
What is the job of the Executive Branch? To approve the laws made by congress and make sure they are carried out.
Who is the leader of the Executive Branch? The President
What is the job of the Judicial Branch? To decide what laws mean and if they are fair.
What are some of the requirements to become President? You must be a natural born citizen of the United States, you must have lied in the United States for 14 years, you must be at least 35 years old
What is definition of Governor? The leader of the state
What is definition of the National Government? Makes laws for the whole country
In a local Government who is the leader? The mayor
What is a county? An area of a state the includes several communities or cities.
Who makes laws for the whole community? The local Government
Who is the leader of the state? The Governor
What is a plan of government for each state? The state constitution
Are the state laws in every state the same? The state laws in every state are not the same because there are different laws based on what a state needs.
What three branches of Government does the Constitution divide the national government into? Legislative, Executive, Judicial
Give five examples of the services the government provides from tax money. Hospitals, Military, Police Department, Education, Fire Department
Give at Least 5 examples of actions of good citizens. Civility, Voting, being on a Jury, Caring, and Volunteering
