Digestion

Ingestion The process of taking food and liquid into the mouth
Mastication The breakdown of food as a result of chewing
Epiglottis A small flap of cartilage, serves to prevent food from passing into the windpipe
Peristalsis Transportation of food that is aided by the release of mucus from the wall of the esophagus
Hydrochloric Acid Helps to breakdown, digest food and kill any harmful bacteria
Pepsin Starts the digestive process of protein by breaking it down
Small Intestine Made up of 3 parts, duodenum, jejunum and illieum
Trypsin Important for breakdown of protein
Amalyse Important for breakdown of carbohydrates
Lipase Important for breakdown of fats
