| Ingestion | The process of taking food and liquid into the mouth |
| Mastication | The breakdown of food as a result of chewing |
| Epiglottis | A small flap of cartilage, serves to prevent food from passing into the windpipe |
| Peristalsis | Transportation of food that is aided by the release of mucus from the wall of the esophagus |
| Hydrochloric Acid | Helps to breakdown, digest food and kill any harmful bacteria |
| Pepsin | Starts the digestive process of protein by breaking it down |
| Small Intestine | Made up of 3 parts, duodenum, jejunum and illieum |
| Trypsin | Important for breakdown of protein |
| Amalyse | Important for breakdown of carbohydrates |
| Lipase | Important for breakdown of fats |
