1) Geography and its effect on settlement/Greek life | Greek communities were isolated by high mountains. The mountains prevented city-states from going to each other, dangerous to cross the mountains. Made the Greeks settle near water and trade with others over water. Grew crops/animals adapted to the area |
2) Colonization: reasons and process | Greeks started colonies because they either did not have good farmland, or they didn't have enough of it. Steps: -Consult oracle -Gather supplies (included city-state's sacred fire) -Started voyage -Looked for open land; little people setttled there |
3) Agora | The Agora was a central, public place in Greece. This was the area where the men (<18) gathered to discuss problems of the city-state they lived in. This gathering place showed some of the earliest examples of Democracy. |
