| Pursuit of Happiness | Each citizen can find happiness in his or her own way, as long as he or she does not step on the rights of others. |
| Life | Each citizen has the right to the protection of his life. |
| Equality | Everyone should get the same treatment regarless of race, religion, money, where parent or grandparents were born. Citizens have political, social and economic equality. |
| Diversity | Differences in languages, dress, food, race, religion, and where parents/grandparents were born are not only allowed but accepted as important. |
| Patriotism | People feel devoted to our country and to teh core democratic values in word and action. |
| Popular Sovereignty | The power of the government comes from the people. |
| Liberty | freedom to believe in what you want. |
| Representative Gov't | The republican form of gov't established under the Constitution is one in which citizens elect others to represent their interest. |
| Freedom of Religion | There shall be full freedom of conscience for people of all faiths or none. Religious freedom is an unalienable right that cannot be removed. Religious liberty includees the right to freely practice any religion or no religion w/out gov't coercion. |

| Common Good | Citizens work together for the common good of all. Gov't makes laws for most people. |
| Truth | The government and citizens should not lie. |
| Seperation of Powers | Legislative,executive,and judical powers should be exercised by different institutions in order to maintain the limitations placed upon them. |
| Individual Rights | The government protects the basic rights of life, liberty, and economic freedom. |
| Checks and Balances | One branch of government is not more powerful than another. |
| Federalism | Power is shared between two sets of governmental institutions those of the states and of the central and federal authorities as stipulated by the Constitution. |
| Civilian Control of the Military | Civilian authority should control the military in order to preserve the constitional government. |
