The Colonies

Growing Season The time of year when it is warm enough for plants to grow.
Tidewater The area where the waters in rivers & streams rises & falls with the oceans tides.
Fall line The area where the rivers from higher land and flow to lower land & often from waterfalls
Back country the mountainous area west of where most colonists settled
Town Meeting a gathering where colonists held elections and voted on the laws of their town
Self-government a government in which the people who live in a place make laws for themselevs
Dissenter a person who does not agree with the beliefs of their leaders
Banished too force someone to leave a place
