Treatment of Slaves

it was unlawful for a slave to learn to write slaves were not free to marry white women
Childbearing started at the age of thirteen women slaves by age twenty would be expected to have four or five children
some masters promised slaves freedom if they had fifteen children some slaves didn't like to marry within the same plantation
wedding parties would be arranged on Saturday nights The marriage ceremony consisted jumping over a broom stick
if no children were born within a year or so the wife was sold Slaves are afraid of being whipped
if a slave escapes, the family member of the slave is then whipped Free slaves in the North even tho they had a degree, they were not treated the same as whites
slaves went to church diligently slaves listened to their preacher as he told them that they were to be obedient to their master in all things
The preacher told the slaves to be faithful and honest to their masters The preacher told the slaves to treat their masters as if they were God
