The War of 1812

This study stack will be over the battles and important people of this war

What was the Embargo Act? The Embargo Act prohibited American ships from trading in foreign ports
What was the Non-Intercourse Act? The Non-Intercourse act was put in place of the Embargo Act. The act allowed ships to trade with all but the French and British ports.
Who was John Adams? He wins the election after George Washington's presidency. He was a federalist, but he had different views than Alexander Hamilton.
Who was Thomas Jefferson? Jefferson was John Adams vice president and president as well. He was a Democratic Republican.
What caused the French revolution? France had hit an economic depression and those who had been to America wanted France to be a republic, not a monarchy. Peasants gathered nobles and began to execute them. They even executed their King and Queen.
What influence did the French revolution have on America? Americans began to split into political parties based on how they felt about what France was going through.
What is impressment? The British kidnapped American sailors and forced them to fight for Britain.
What happened during the Quazi War? France wanted special privileges that Britain gained from Jay's treaty to end. They attacked American ships. American ends French alliances and attacks their ships.
What were the Alien and Sedition Acts? The Alien Act gave the President the power to expel anyone of foreign birth if they caused harm. The Sedition Act stated that if someone criticized the President or members of congress, they would be put in jail.
Who was Francis Scott Key? The British thought he heard the plans of an attack on America, so they kept him and he was a passenger on the ship that tried to attack America but failed. He wrote his experiences as a poem. Later his poem was turned into our national anthem.
Who won the election of 1800? James Madison
Where did Lewis and Clark explore on their journey? They explored along the Mississippi river and were accompanied by Sacagawea for much of the expedition.
Who was Tecumseh? He was the chief of the Shawnee Indians. He is killed in the battle of Thames.
Who was sent by James Madison to negotiate with Tecumseh and his tribe? William Henry Harrison
Who is the hero of the battle of New Orleans? Andrew Jackson
What did the trial of Marbury v. Madison do? It established the power of judicial review.
What did the trial of Gibbons v. Ogden do? It expanded federal power over interstate trade.
