American Revolution

Colony A settlement under the control of another country.
Independence Freedom from the control of another person or government
Tax Money the government collects from people
Loyalist A person who wanted the 13 colonies to remain loyal to the King of England
Patriot A person who wanted the 13 colonies to be independent from England
Constitution A set of written laws
Blockade A group of ships that block other ships from sailing in and out of a harbor
Government A group of people who rule or have control
Revolution a fight to replace one government with a different government
boycott an act of protest when people stop buying or using a product
Congress a group of representatives who meet to solve a problem
Declaration an announcement
militia A group of men who fight together
