Jefferson Test Study Guide

What happened during the election of 1800? Jefferson and Burr have a tie between their electoral votes. The Congress votes multiple times and still has the same vote until Alexander Hamilton gets involved.
What are Midnight Appointments? Midnight Appointments led to the creation of the Judiciary Act: Midnight Judges, The act was created in 1801 and introduced by John Adams.
What is Judicial Review, how was it created? Judicial Review is testing if a law is constitutional or unconstitutional. It was established to balance the Judicial branch.
What did Lewis and Clark discover during their expedition? Lewis and Clark found geographical and scientific knowledge about the natives. The goals were to find rivers, develop friendly native relationships, develop trading in the region, they looked for the northwest passage, and looked for animal and plant life
What problem did Jefferson have about acquiring the Louisiana Territory? Jefferson was worried that he did not have the power to buy the Louisiana territory because it was $15 million of government money.
What did Sacajawea do for the Lewis and Clark expedition? Sacajawea was a translator and guide. Sacajawea helped for the success of Lewis and Clark. She guided them through mountains and rough terrain and helped with their native relations.
What helped the election of 1804 avoid the problems that were during the election of 1800? The president with the most electoral votes would be the president and the runnerup would be the vice president, this system doesn't work.
Describe the duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton? Aaron Burr was angry at Hamilton, he then challenged Hamilton to a duel.
What was the purpose and outcome of Zebulon Pike's Expedition? Zebulon Pike's expedition was to explore the southern side of the Louisiana territory. Zebulon Pike's expedition led to the finding and climbing of 'Pike's Peak'.
Describe the situation that led to the Embargo Act of 1807? Jefferson was fed up with France and Britain fighting so he created the embargo act to prevent the involvement of the US.
