Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Petition Formal request to someone in authority, usually written and signed by a group of people.
Boycott to refuse to buy certain goods or services.
Repeal to cancel or undo.
Militia army of citizens who serve as soldiers in an emergency.
Refugee person who flees his or her homeland to seek safety elsewhere.
Blockade shutting off a port by positioning ships to keep people or supplies from moving in or out.
Mercenary soldier who fights merely for pay, often for a foreign country.
Traitor person who betrays his or her country.
Preamble opening statement of a declaration, constitution, or other official document.
Ally nation that works with another nation for a common purpose.
Cavalry troops on horseback.
Guerilla soldier who uses hit and run tactics
Siege military blockade of an enemy town or position in order to force it to surrender
Ratify to approve.
