TermDefinition
States’ Rights The position that the federal government should not interfere with the states exercising their constitutional rights.
Secede To withdraw from something, such as a nation.
Abolitionist A person who wanted to end slavery
Reconstruction The effort, after the Civil War, to reorganize the seceded states and bring them back into the Union.
Blockade Using naval vessels (ships) to prevent shipment of food and supplies into or out of ports.
Sectionalism Focus on the interests of one’s regions.
Unionist A person who supported the Union cause during the Civil War.
Vigilante A person who takes the law into their own hands.
Homespun A coarse, loosely, woven homemade fabric
