Yellow Jounalism Use of provocative pictures, bold headlines, and exaggerated information or sensationalism intended to get reader's attention and increase circulation.
Propaganda Exaggerated information used to influence public opinion.
Muckraking Journalism that revealed the problems or evils of society; today it is called investigative reporting.
Progressive Era 1890's-1920's: Gave more power to the people.
Hard News Fact-based reporting, traditionally found in printed press.
Soft News Distorting or interpreting the facts for entertainment (infotainment)
Microtargeting Focusing on a specific group to tailor political messages for them.
Priming Process by which media influences the criteria that the public uses to make decisions and evaluate political leaders or candidates (ex: emphasis on specific issues changes how we view a candidate).
Framing Process by which media influences the perception of issues by constructing the issue in a certain way [ex: Afghanistan - fighting terrrorism (pos) or focus on casualties (neg) ]
