| Hobson's Choice | all or nothing choice |
| Mandate | overwhelming public support for your program |
| Smoking Gun | incontrovertible evidence of guilt |
| Fallback | an agreed upon line of retreat |
| Walking back the cat | retreating from a negotiating position |
| Balanced Ticket | canidates chosen to appeal to as broad a range of voters as possible |
| Kiss of Death | unwelcome support from an unpopular source (not a soul-sucking from a Deatheater) |
| Sherman Statement | a final and irrevocable declaration of non-candidacy |
| Yahoo | common man (usually seen as a rural mid-westerner) (really that's the definition) |
| Swing voter | a voter who votes for the canidate - not the party |
| Stir up the animals | ignite an unwanted controversy - take a position that will cause controversy |

| Man on horseback | a military figure with political potential/ future |
| Linkage | success in one area is contingent on success in another area |

| Bellwether | a trend-setter or a district with a history of reflecting a national voting pattern |
| Cowboy | a party member that does not obey party discipline |
| Boondoggle | a government project which wastes money due to inefficiency or corruption |
