Caliph A leader that was above Muhammad. Example: Ur
Cultural diffusion The differences between cultures.
Five pillars of faith Almsgiving
Islam A religion that was started by Muhammad. About 20% of the world's population is Muslim.
Jihad Muslim's struggle with challenges.
Makkah Pilgrims followed what Muslims believed in.
Muhammad The little boy who had started it all for Islam. When he was young, he went on trading trips with his dad.
Muslim A person who follows their religious beliefs during their lives.
Prophet People believed that the prophets were the messengers of God.
Qur'an Their version of a Bible.
Shari'ah The Muslim law
Sunnah An example of the prophet Muhammad.
Trade Routes The roads that merchants would go to get from area to area.
Abraham He was given a covenant that God agreed to. Christianity started from there. Islam was not started by him, though.
alms giving When Muslims would give to the poor 2.5% of their money.
hadith Accounts of Muhammad's words or actions.
Imam A prayer leader
Jesus The savior that sacrificed his life on the cross for us. He was a Muslim because his parents were.
Ka'ba A shrine honoring God.
Monotheism A culture who believes in one god.
People of the Book People who are in the book that we honor today.
Polytheism A culture who believes in many gods.
Ramadan The Islamic calendar's ninth month
