Core vocab for upcoming semester quiz.

Character People or animals in a story
Setting Where and when the story takes place
Plot The main events; what happens in the story; must reveal ending
Theme Lesson about life that the story teaches-can't be an idiom
Static Character One that undergoes little or no inner growth
Dynamic Character A character that undergoes an important “inner” change in personality or attitude
Symbol A noun that represents something larger than itself
First Person Point of View Narrator or person telling the story is a character in the story
External Conflict A struggle with an outside force; it could be another person, nature, or society; you can’t control what happens
Internal Conflict A struggle within a person; a dilemma You have to make the decision
Context Clues Help define a difficult or unusual word
Inference A conclusion based on evidence from the text and reasoning
