| plain | a large area of flat or nearly flat land |
| geography | the study of Earth and the way people, plants and animals use it |
| border | a line that people decide on that divides one place from another |
| plateau | a large area that rise steeply above the surrounding land |
| valley | the low land between hills or mountains that often has a river at the bottom |
| ice age | a period of time when the earth was much colder than it is today |
| moraine | a line of low hills formed by the rocks pushing at the front of a glacier |
| drumlin | a smoothly rounded hill formed by a melting glacier |
| harbor | a sheltered place along a coast where boats dock |
| transportation | the moving of goods or people from one place to another |
| bay | a part of an ocean or lake that cuts deeply into the land |
| till | soil and rocks dropped by glaciers |
| tributary | a river that flows into another, larger river |
| glacier | a huge sheet of ice that moves slowly across the land |
| mouth | the place where a river empties into an ocean, lake, or larger river |
| Albany | the capital of New York State |
| Niagara Falls | three large waterfalls that straddle the border of New York State and Canada |
| Mount Marcy | The tallest mountain in New York Sate, located in the Adirondack Mountains |
